Welcome Team 8C - Panther

ClassroomWelcome to our class website. In an effort to bring myself into the 21st century, I decided to develop this website. Throughout the year I will be adding various materials and activities to help you interact with the 8th grade social studies content. I really enjoy learning this new technology (new to me), I hope you enjoy using it. Working together, we will climb to the top of Panther Peak together.

Curriculum
We study the economic, social, and political history of the United States from the post Civil War westward expansion era up until the present time. This is a continuation of your 7th grade history class. We also spend a significant amount of time working on social studies skills.

Class Activities
We will do a lot of different things in social studies this year. Our “Bread and Butter” activities will be focused on study skills to help prepare you for high school. It will be very important for you to maintain an organized binder. You can also expect to spend a lot of time improving your social studies writing skills. If this was it we would all go crazy, so be prepared to do a lot of different activities.  We will act out plays in class, perform simulations, play review games, and work on many technology projects.

Grading Policy
Grading is based on a point system. Each quarter, 80% of your grade will be based on tests, projects, quizzes, notebook grades, and homework. A quarterly exam will make up the other 20%. These four quarterly grades are averaged at the end of the year for your final grade in social studies.
